Janet Riddle/George Sawicki Memorial Candlelight Event

Saturday, January 15th 5pm-7pm

Cost: Non-Members: $5 / Members: Free

Help us celebrate the memory of two very good friends of Winter Park by joining us for a candlelight ski or snowshoe adventure. George and Janet absolutely loved these events and we are making this one extra special in their honor.

Skiers and snowshoers will find haikus written by Janet sprinkled along both routes. She would often ski the trails and return with a head full of poetry that she composed while on gliding through the woods. Also on both routes are places where guests can stop to light a candle in remembrance of these two special people (or anyone else who is also in your thoughts).

Snowshoers will hike up Mt. Goat to Wolf’s Den Shelter where a roaring bonfire awaits. Those wanting to reach the top of the hill continue on Mt Goat all the way to the Squirrel Hill Summit…the highest point in the park. Take a breather around another cozy campfire before heading down the hill back to the chalet.

Skiers will have two route options. The 3km round trip Tea House route is an excellent option for very new skiers or those with small children. The 5km round trip Nature Shelter route is still located on beginner friendly trails but are slightly more rolling. Both destinations will have campfires, tables, and benches.
